Over the years, building of this seventy-five-year-old Government Practicing School has progressively reached to a pathetic state due to lack of maintenance of leaking roof and fragile walls. The current state of building is not conducive for a “safe learning environment“. During this year’s monsoon season, state of the building structural strength / stability has further deteriorated to such an extent that some parts appear to be on the verge of collapse.
Despite all these poor conditions and hardships, parents and school administration made makeshift arrangements with limited resources to carry out bare minimum functioning of the school. Risky and sorry state of building on the verge of collapse has been reported by press/news media and have been brought to the attention of concerned authorities.
In response to this, government and authorities have taken this matter seriously and have responded positively to address day to day safety / wellbeing risk for students and teachers. We welcome this. In addition, we are delighted to share the information that building repair funding has been granted to carry out the essential repair works for the roofing from MP, MLA, district commissioner and department of education relief funds.
Whilst this is good development, inspection and initial estimate by authorised engineer suggest that only partial sections of roof and building could be repaired with the granted funds. Therefore, we seek required support from the government, alumni and donors for complete overall building and infrastructure repair.
